If you want your car seat to change and grow with your child, take a look at the Graco 4ever 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat.
This car seat will follow your child all the way to age ten. Wouldn’t it be nice to not have to buy different car seats for every stage of life? This car seat can be transformed from a rear-facing seat, to a toddler seat, and finally to a booster seat.
In this article, we will talk about why the Graco 4ever All-in-One car seat is the car seat you’ve been looking for forever.
Designed To Last Forever
The entire seat as you receive it will be just under twenty-three pounds. The seat is two feet tall. It is also twenty inches deep and twenty-one and half inches wide.
The seat has four different stages. The first stage is the rear-facing harness. This stage is good for children who weigh between four pounds and forty pounds.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends children ride rear-facing until at least 2 years of age.
Once the child is too big for the rear-facing position (especially if their head is within one inch of the handle), you can change the seat to the forward-facing position. This position holds children between twenty and sixty-five pounds. The recommended child height range is twenty-seven and forty-nine inches.
As your child gets bigger, you can change the seat again to the high-back booster seat. This booster seat can hold thirty to one hundred pounds. The recommended child height range is thirty-eight to fifty-seven inches.
Once your child reaches fifty-eight inches (four feet ten inches) or one hundred and twenty pounds, they legally do not require a booster seat anymore. They can happily sit up in the front passenger seat next to you!
This seat is nineteen and a half inches at its widest point (at the cup holders). The base is fifteen inches wide. The seat area is thirteen inches wide at its narrowest point.
The seat is just under twenty-three pounds. This makes it on the heavier side of car seats.
Seating depth is twelve and a half inches. The shell is originally two feet high (twenty-four inches) but can extend to thirty four inches.
The harness is anywhere from seven to eighteen inches high. The seven-inch measurement at the lowest harness height includes an infant pillow.
The harness is easily adjusted to keep your child safe. The headrest is also adjustable. The Simply Safe Adjust Harness System adjusts to the ten different possible positions of the headrest and harness in one easy motion.
The Graco 4ever 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat has been side impact tested for occupant retention. The unit has a built in five-point harness system. It has been engineered and crash tested to meet or exceed US standard FMVSS 213.
The peak crash force for this car seat is two times more than a standard car seat. This car seat has a proven crash safety record. It has already saved many children’s lives. It could save yours too.
This seat is also FAA approved for air travel. This means that not only do you not have to buy a new seat for different stages of life, you can also keep the same seat to take on an airplane. This seat truly is all-in-one!
Safe doesn’t necessarily mean easy to use, but this car seat is. Keep reading to find out how the safety features have been made easy.
The frame of the car seat is steel-reinforced. This provides strength and durability for years.
The soft padding of the car seat provides cushioning and support. There will be more on how comfortable your child will be in this seat later.
The cushioning also absorbs impact.
There is a level indicator on the seat. This tells you the correct position for a safe and correct installation.
This car seat has been tested for extreme car interior temperatures. It will not break or harm your child after exposed to extreme temperatures.
Graco provides a one-year manufacturer warranty. This car seat also comes with a ten-year expiration date.
Other Great Features
This car seat comes in thirteen different styles and colors. If you are still looking for inspiration on what to name your child, many of these styles are also cute baby names, such as Joslyn or Cameron.
Children come with messes. Luckily, the cushions are machine washable. You can remove it easily without removing the harness.
The cover is also machine washable and easy to take off. It is not one solid cover but three separate parts. This means that you can remove and clean only the part that is dirty.
Metal and plastic parts are easily cleaned with mild soap and cool water. The buckle can be cleaned with a damp cloth. The harness straps are easily spot cleaned.
The seat includes built in cup holders. These will keep your child’s drink, snacks, and small toys close for convenience.
If your child spills their drink or makes too much of a mess, check out this list of Car Carpet Cleaners.
There are harness storage compartments integrated into the seat. These hold unused harness straps while in booster seat mode.
There is also Fuss Free Harness Storage to hold the buckle out of the way. This way, it is easy to get the child in and out.
This seat has a one click latch system that makes it easy to take care of the harnesses. The latch is easy to open or close. It will make a clicking sound when the latch is securely in place.
There are plush inserts to keep your child comfortable. There are also six positions of recline to adjust to fit your child.
The first three positions are for rear-facing only.
Position four can be used in rear-facing or forward-facing. In forward-facing position, recline position four is for children under forty pounds.
Recline positions five and six can be used in forward-facing position. The child must be over forty pounds to be in recline position five or six.
The seat has soft padding. This easily absorbs impact but is also plushy and comfortable.
Overall, your child will be comfortable in this seat, whether the seat is in your car, on a plane, or in your home.
As described above, the harness is designed to protect your child. It also is designed to be a Fuss Free harness. This means it is easy to get the baby in and out.
The product arrives entirely as one unit. There is no assembly required. Instructions are included with the product.
Installation into your car is easy. There is a one-second in right Latch system and an easy-to-read bubble level indicator to help you.
Converting between the different stages is also a breeze. You will probably have to take the seat out of your car to do it, but it is quick and easy.
All the belt paths are clearly labelled and color coded. This means that if you need to move this seat between cars, you don’t need to necessarily consult the instruction manual every time.
It Can’t Be Perfect…
One con of this seat is that it is among the heavier car seats. Twenty-three pounds is a lot to carry around in addition to your child.
That weight comes from all the features that make your child safe and comfortable.
This is also a larger car seat. Some parents have tried to remove the cup holders to create extra space. Do not do this.
Graco states that the cupholders must remain in the car seat while the car seat is in use. This seat has not been crash tested without the cupholders.
It will be a bit of a tight fit in some smaller cars. This is especially true when the seat is in rear-facing position. Even on the lowest recline setting, there will not be much room left for front passengers in a small car.
Some parents have also complained that they cannot get the harness straps tight enough. This is a recurring issue in Graco convertible car seats.
In order to fix this problem, make sure to pull up all the slack in the harness in the hip area first. Then, pull out the slack in the harness behind the car seat before pulling the adjuster strap to tighten the harness. Also, tighten the harness before you buckle the chest clip.
This is not designed to be a portable infant carrier. It does not fit on strollers. It is meant to stay in the car.
There is only one set of Latch straps for both rear and forward-facing positions. You will need to manually adjust this when you switch between the two positions.
There is no lockoff device for seat belt installations. You need to know how your seatbelts lock, especially if you have an older vehicle.
While the manufacturer does state that this seat can hold babies as small as four pounds, the seat would likely be too be big for babies under seven pounds.
This is a common problem with convertible car seats. If you have a preemie or a small newborn, it is generally probably safer to start with an infant car seat. You can always move on to a convertible seat once your baby has grown more.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that the headrest may rattle. There is no safety issue from the rattling. The rattling is worst when the headrest is set high up and the car seat is empty.
Graco may exchange your car seat due to the rattling, but there is no guarantee that the new seat will not rattle.
You can buy a car seat protector with thicker padding. This extra-large seat cover is slip proof and water resistant.
The seat protector also includes a three-pocket compartment in the front for extra storage for snacks or toys.
There is also the option of buying a Car Kick Mats Back Seat Protector two pack. Hopefully, your child will not be kicking the seat in front of them often. If they do, these kick mats will keep the backs of your front seats clean.
The kick mats also double as a storage area with stretchy pockets. These pockets can be used to keep activities for your child, such as coloring books, pencils, and snacks.
