1 Moved By Bikes MBB Longboard Rack – Most Durable Surfboard Bike Rack

The MBB longboard rack is made from a combination of stainless steel and anodized aluminum. The upshot is that it’s guaranteed to stay corrosion-free. This is pretty much an essential feature for anything made of metal that’s likely to get a sniff of the ocean.

Another big plus is that the rack is built like a tank. Unlike a lot of cheaper surfboard bike racks, this one won’t bend out of shape or break if your bike falls over. You can have confidence that it’s made to last.

Best for bikes with steel frames…

The rack comes in two parts. The front part of the rack is mounted on the headtube. The rear part of the rack is mounted on the seat tube. All the brackets and hardware are provided for the installation.

The brackets are designed with steel bike frames in mind. If you have an aluminum frame, the brackets will probably be too small and will require a little alteration to get them to fit. If you’re forced to do this, just be careful to ensure you don’t mess up your bike’s paintwork.

Highly adjustable, with a quick-release system…

The arm heights can be adjusted according to the size of your bike’s frame. Once installed, you can carry any board up to a weight of 25lbs and 3.5” thick. Additionally, the rack is well padded to ensure you don’t damage your board.

When cycling, the brackets are pushed far enough and won’t interfere with your pedal stroke and cycling action. The rack can take any board up to 12’ in length, and longer if you’re brave enough. However, longer boards are likely to make cycling more difficult.

Quick as a flash…

When you’re not carrying your board, the rack has a quick release system to detach the rack quickly from your bike. This is a great feature that makes for a much better riding experience when you’re without your board.

Our rating:4.6 out of 5 stars (4.6 / 5)

Pros

  • Rock-solid build quality.
  • Can carry heavy and longboards.
  • It uses anti-corrosive metals.
  • Quick-release system.

Cons

  • The bracket may not fit on aluminum frames.

2 Carver Surfboard Bike Rack – Longboard – Best Lightweight Surfboard Bike Rack

The Carver Surfboard Bike Rack originates from Hawaii. This company makes a variety of different surfboard racks. If you have a shorter board, we’d recommend you take a look at the Carver CSR Mini. But for those of you with longboards, this is a good choice.

The rack is cleverly designed as an integrated part of a traditional rear bike rack. It’s made from 6061 aluminum alloy. It’s strong, lightweight, and even when regularly taken to the beach, it won’t corrode over the long term.

Safe and secure design…

The rack is attached to the bike via the four mounting points on your bike’s frames. All cruisers and hybrids will have compatible mounts for a rear rack. The rack is adjustable, so will fit on any size cruiser bike, regardless of how big or small.

The Carver Surfboard Bike Rack will fit any board or longboard up to 10’. However, it’s probably too narrow, at 5.7”, for most paddleboards. Once the board is placed in the rack, there are integrated ties to help keep your board in place.

A bit of wobble…

On the move, you may experience a little wobbling at the rear. There’s no doubt about it that initially, this can be somewhat disconcerting. However, it doesn’t mean that the board is not properly secured or that it’s going to fall off.

To minimize any wobbling, be sure to check that the bolts are properly tightened to the mounts. With a little bit of experience, the wobbling will all become part of the riding experience.

Easily removable…

When you’re not going to the beach, the two surfboard bike rack arms can be taken off. This leaves you with just the main rear bike rack still attached. Put on a set of panniers or a cargo net, and you then have the perfect bike to pick up a spot of shopping.

Carver Surfboard Bike Rack
Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

Pros

  • Lightweight.
  • Strong.
  • Quick-release arms.
  • Incorporates a rear bike rack.

Cons

  • You will experience some wobbling when riding.

3 Carver Surf Rack CSR Mini Black Small – Best Affordable Surfboard Bike Rack

This is another all-welded 6061 all-aluminum surfboard bike rack. It’s sturdy, durable, and corrosive free. Plus, as a bonus, it is lightweight too. It weighs just four pounds.

The rack is easier to attach to your bike than the larger longboard carver rack. It only has one mounting point, which is on the seat post. It will fit any diameter seat post between 25.4mm to 31.8mm. This covers nearly every make and size of seat post you’re likely to encounter.

Careful if you have carbon fiber seat post…

If you have a carbon fiber seat post, be careful of the amount of torque you use to tighten the bolts. Carbon fiber will easily crack under much lower pressures when compared to steel or aluminum. It’s unlikely your bike will have a carbon fiber seat post, but it’s something worth checking before installation.

The Carver Surf Rack CSR Mini can carry a single surfboard up to 8’, a bodyboard, or a couple of skimboards. Once the boards are in the rack, there are two integrated elastic bungees to hold the boards and prevent them from falling off.

The straps are effective, but the hooks on the end are a little primitive. They remind us of the cheap hooks you find at the end of a bungee. They could be a lot better. Happily, the padding on the arms is good quality, as is the rest of the rack.

Simple removal and storage…

When you don’t need to use the rack, you can take off the arms quickly. Alternatively, if you need to store the complete rack, it folds into a small profile, so requires only a small amount of space.

Carver Surf Rack CSR Mini Black Small
Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

Pros

  • Inexpensive.
  • Strong and durable.
  • It will not corrode.
  • Lightweight.
  • Easy to attach and detach.

Cons

  • Low-quality hooks on the bungees.

4 Carver CSR Scooter Surf Rack (Moped) – Best Scooter Surfboard Rack

The Carver CSR Scooter Surf Rack is designed for either a small scooter or a small motorcycle.

It comes with all the hardware you’ll need to install it. You only need a single hex key to fix the rack. Happily, the good people of Carverland are even nice enough to throw that in too. The rack is made out of the same aluminum alloy as the rest of the range. This means that it’s strong and won’t rust.

Quick and smooth installation…

Installation takes no longer to fit than a bicycle surfboard rack. The only tricky part is getting the first two plates to align properly over your existing rear rack. Once these are joined and secured, it’s all plain sailing.

The two arms are then inserted into the frame. These can be moved and angled to make it easy to carry any size of the board. You can carry larger surfboards or longboards. In fact, this rack can even be used for carrying things like folded chairs or building materials.

To hold everything in place, they use the same bungees as on the Carver Surf Rack CSR Mini. We’re not exactly crazy about these, but they do a good enough job.

Super solid construction…

One thing that we do love about the rack is that it’s rock-solid. There’s no lateral movement at all. It’s possible that this the best surfboard bike rack in terms of stability. The reason for this is probably because this surfboard rack is designed to cope with higher speeds that are more common on scooters in comparison to bicycles.

Almost unbelievably, there are plenty of reports of people riding at speeds of up to 80mph with a board strapped to one of these frames. Frankly, given the possibility of a gust of wind, we think this is madness. However, it gives you an idea of this rack’s stability at more sensible speeds.

Carver CSR Scooter Surf Rack
Our rating:3.8 out of 5 stars (3.8 / 5)

Pros

  • Rock-solid stability.
  • Strong and durable.
  • Most surfboards and longboards will fit.
  • Easy to adjust.
  • Uses corrosion-resistant materials.

Cons

  • Bungees are cheap.
  • Arms cannot be bent to accommodate two boards.

5 Lixada AU Stock Surfboard Bicycle Carrier Rack – Best Budget Surfboard Bike Rack

This is the most affordable surfboard bike rack on our list. Nevertheless, despite its price, it still has similar features to some of the more expensive racks. Plus, the quality is equally as good too.

So, should you buy this over some of the bigger named surfboard bike racks?

Possibly. To start with, there’s nothing about this rack that has been compromised in terms of quality. You get a well-made aluminum, anti-corrosive, alloy tube frame. The clamp and the hardware are all solid and durable. What’s more, is that the padding on the frame is thick and effective.

This is all good. However, as it turns out, they’ve also copied the two low-quality bungees that help to keep your board in place. It requires a little bit of extra effort, and this could have so easily been made better. Still, we can’t criticize it too heavily since no one seems to have gotten this right.

Straightforward installation…

Installing the rack is a straightforward affair. It uses a single clamp onto the seat post. As long as your seat post has a diameter of between 25mm to 32mm, and you’ve got a couple of minutes spare, you’re good to go.

The rack will fit surfboards up to 8” wide around 8’ long. The arms are adjustable to get a better fit and can be used to carry any object that will fit. The weight limit is a hearty 20kgs, which shouldn’t be too much of a chore.

Superb value for the money…

All in all, the Lixada AU Stock Surfboard Bicycle Carrier Rack offers great value. If you’re on a budget and you’re happy to use a less well-known brand, we don’t think this rack will disappoint you.

Lixada AU Stock Surfboard Bicycle Carrier Rack
Our rating:4.6 out of 5 stars (4.6 / 5)

Pros

  • It uses non-corrosive materials.
  • Adjustable and removable arms.
  • Easy to install.
  • Will fit most bikes.
  • Good value.

Cons

  • Poor quality bungees.
  • Not suitable for longboards.

6 Peyan Surfboard Bike Rack – Best Value Surfboard Bike Rack

We’re starting to get a feeling of déjà vu and Groundhog Day rolled into one. The Peyan Surfboard Bike Rack is so similar to both the Carver CSR Mini and the Lixada racks that they’re hard to tell apart.

Same, but not the same…

The quality of all three is close to identical. So is the choice of materials. The Peyan uses the same non-corrosive aluminum alloy for the arms, the same clamping system, and the same sized and the same number of hex bolts. Happily, the padding also looks close to identical.

Not so happy are those cheap bungees. I think we’ve said enough about those a couple of times already!

Solid mounting with pretty much no wobbling…

The rack takes just a few minutes to install. The good news is that they include a hex key, and no other tools are required. This means no rummaging around the garage for wrenches and screwdrivers.

Once the rack is on your bike, it feels nice and solid. On the move, there’s very little movement or wobble. Like the Lixada and the Carver CSR Mini, you get a small amount, but it’s not significant. For the level of speeds, you’ll be going on a cruiser bike; there’s certainly nothing to worry about.

Great value for what you get…

You can fit boards up to 8” wide and up to 8’ long. We’re sure all this sounds familiar. As will the fact that you can adjust the arms for carrying different boards or alternate loads. Also familiar is that the arms can be quickly detached when you’re cycling without your board.

This is another good value surfboard bike rack. It stacks up equally well as the other two post-clamp bike racks. If the price is right for you, we have no hesitation in recommending this rack as a great option.

Peyan Surfboard Bike Rack
Our rating:4.2 out of 5 stars (4.2 / 5)

Pros

  • Lightweight.
  • Arms can be detached.
  • Fits most bikes.
  • Quick installation.
  • Good value.

Cons

  • Cheap bungees.

7 The Wheele Board Walk Surfboard and SUP Trailer Hand Held Surf and Paddleboard Carrier – Best Walking Surfboard Bike Rack

This is so cool. The Wheele Board Walk Surfboard rack is designed so you can secure your board while walking and wheeling it to the beach. However, although there are no kits or aftermarket kits available, you don’t need too much imagination or DIY skills to find a way to also hook it up to the back of your bike.

Careful of clearance…

If you go down this route, be aware that it’s not what it was designed to do, so it’s completely at your own risk. Just be careful to ensure you have adequate clearance on all sides and corners. Plus, don’t forget to take into account any nasty bumps you might encounter on your ride.

The rack has a tubular steel frame sat on a half-inch solid axle. The frame and axle use corrosive resistant materials. The frame sits on 13-inch solid wheels, so you never have to worry about punctures.

The ride isn’t so smooth, but the surfboards honestly won’t mind!

Rubber pads are strategically placed on all contact points to prevent damage to your board. Additionally, the heavy-duty pull straps, and the straps that secure your board to the frame, will not scratch your surfboard.

The Wheele Board Walk Surfboard rack can carry any surfboard between 9’ to 12’. Even better, it can also carry multiple boards. The protective pads and Velcro fastening system make this a quick and easy operation.

Great, only if you really want to walk those boards…

If you need to walk and carry multiple boards, this is the best surfboard bike rack. If you want to alternate between walking and riding your bike, it’s another great choice. Just be prepared to spend some time on research and some DIY.

The Wheele Board Walk Surfboard and SUP Trailer Hand Held Surf and Paddleboard Carrier
Our rating:4.2 out of 5 stars (4.2 / 5)

Pros

  • Can carry multiple boards.
  • Solid puncture-proof tires.
  • Suitable for longboards.
  • The frame uses corrosive-resistant materials.
  • Well padded.

Cons

  • Requires DIY adaption to use with a bike.

Best Surfboard Bike Rack Buying Guide

Best Surfboard Bike Rack Review

Seat Post and Headtube Mounted

These are one of the more popular surfboard bike racks. They come in two separate parts. One of the arms is clamped onto the seat post, and the other is clamped onto the headtube.

One of the main advantages of this kind of rack is that the distance between the two arms is relatively long. This leads to a higher level of stability in comparison to other styles of racks. Another advantage is that the arms can more easily be angled and maneuvered to fit the size of the board. The distance between the arms also makes them more suitable for longboards.

The…

…is a cool looking, great quality, seat post, and headtube mounted bike rack. We’d be happy to put it on one of our cruisers.

Seat Post Mounted

Seat post mounted surfboard bike racks only have one fixing point. The arms are, therefore, closer together. They can be adjusted to fit different sizes of boards, but they struggle to fit anything over 8’. Consequently, they’re a poor choice if you have a longboard.

On the plus side, they have the advantage of being easier to fix onto your bike. However, they are slightly less stable than a rack that’s mounted on both the seat post and the headtube.

Top Best Surfboard Bike Racks

Rear Bike Rack Mounted

We like this option because you get the versatility of having a rear bike rack incorporated into your surfboard rack. Like the previous two kinds of racks, these also allow you to remove the arms when you’re not transporting your board. This means you instead have the option of using the rear rack to carry shopping.

Another positive aspect of this design is that when the arms are placed on either end of the rear rack, like on the…

Carver Surfboard Bike Rack – Longboard

…as the name suggests, they can be used to carry a longboard. The downsides are that they do take longer to fit. Plus, they tend to wobble a little. You soon get used to it, but it can be a bit off-putting at first.

Trailer Mounted

Trailer mounted surfboard racks are not strictly a bike surfboard rack. Nevertheless, it’s not unusual to see these modified to be used in conjunction with a bike.

They can be useful when walking long distances between your car and the beach. Also, being able to use them with your bike gives these racks a lot of versatility over the alternatives. Another final couple of positives are that you can transport multiple boards and larger boards and longboards between 9’ t 12’.

The negatives are that they’re not suitable for smaller boards. And also, you’ll have to employ your DIY skills if you intend to use one with your bike.
