Top 7 Best Scissor Jacks On The Market In 2020 Reviews
1 ROGTZ Electric Car Floor Jack Set – 3 Ton – Best SUV Scissor Jack
The first item on our list is a full tire replacement kit made by ROGTZ. They make an Electric Car Floor Jack Set that will help you get the entire job done. And we think it’s the best scissor jack set for SUVs that you can buy.
Save yourself some exercise…
This scissor jack is raised by an electric motor, which will save you from having to crank it up. The power supply is two-way, with the ability to connect to either your car battery or any 12-V outlet.
Even better, it only takes two minutes for the jack to reach its maximum height. This means you can jack your vehicle to as much as 17 inches in no time at all.
How much weight will it hold?
This scissor jack features heavy-duty steel construction. The large saddle and base help increase stability, as does the compact triangle design. This all comes together to provide up to three tons of lifting power.
This makes it one of the best SUV scissor jacks available. We love the idea of pressing a button and having all the work done for us. It makes it super easy for anyone, no matter how strong, to get the vehicle jacked up.
What’s in the box…
Also included in this kit is an electric impact wrench. This will help you remove the nuts with the press of a button. Even better, there is also a tire inflator pump included in the set.
This makes it ideal for changing or topping up the air pressure on tires. You won’t need to worry about roadside assistance. Everything you need will be at hand to get the job done quickly.
There’s even a built-in LED flashlight in case you get stuck somewhere at night. It’s waterproof, so there’s no need to wait for the rain to stop. All in all, this is easily one of the best scissor jacks for SUVs weighing under three tons.
- Lifts up to three tons.
- 17” maximum height.
- Electric powered.
- Includes electric impact wrench and tire inflator pump.
- Built-in waterproof LED flashlight.
- The most expensive option on our list.
2 Eaz-Lift Model #48840 RV Stabilizing Scissor Jack – 5,000 lb – Pack of 2 – Best RV Scissor Jack
Scissor jacks are not only used for changing tires. Eaz-Lift makes a great option for those looking to level out their RV. We, therefore, think model #48840 is a great option for camping trips.
Is this the best RV stabilizing scissor jack set?
It’s certainly one of them, thanks to the 5,000-pound load rating. This means you can easily level your trailer or pop-up camper. Even if you set camp on a slight slope, you can still achieve a nice level sleeping area.
We also like that this unit has two installation options. You can bolt it into place for a secure and easily removable installation. Or, this unit can be welded into place, making it readily available for all upcoming camping adventures.
Is it easy to use?
Yes, this scissor jack can be raised/lowered with the use of a power drill. You’ll need a sufficiently powerful one to accomplish the task. Still, we found these to be nice and easy to use.
We also appreciate that there are two scissor lifts included. The ones we looked at have a 30-inch maximum height, though there are other (smaller) options available.
But are they durable?
Yes, thanks to their powder coating, these scissor lifts won’t rust like some cheaper options. That makes them some of the best scissor jacks for campers, trailers, or anything else you need to level out.
- Lifts up to 5,000 lb.
- 30” maximum height.
- Other sizes are available.
- Bolt-on or weld in-place installation.
- Fits most trailers and pop-ups.
- Requires a high-power drill.
3 Husky 76862 Stabilizing Scissor Jack – 6,500 lb – Set of 2 – Best Heavy Duty Scissor Jack
Husky also makes a Stabilizing Scissor Jack set for 5th wheels and travel trailers. The model #76862 is another great option for your next camping adventure. We think they’re some of the best heavy-duty scissor jacks around.
How much weight will they lift?
You get 6,500 pounds of lifting power per jack with these Husky jacks. They come in a set of two, which makes them ideal for leveling out trailers, RVs, and more. Plus, they feature a universal design that allows them to fit most RVs.
They feature sturdy steel construction, which has been given a black powder coating finish. This means they are built tough and won’t fall foul to corrosion issues.
Are they stable?
These jacks feature a 35 square-inch base plate. They are also designed for permanent mounting and are easily concealed when not in use. So, they’re not only suitably stable, but they also won’t affect the look of your vehicle when not in use.
The jack is operated by an easy-to-use swivel handle. This makes their operation manual-powered, but rather easy just the same. They’re also easy to install, which is always a plus. Oh, and they provide 24 inches of lift and are backed by a 2-year Limited Warranty. What more could you ask for at this price point?
But is there a downside?
While we didn’t experience any issues with these jacks, we have heard of others having one common issue. It seems that in some cases, the screw mechanism can fail. It’s not a regular problem, and it should be covered by the warranty.
- Lifts up to 6,500 lb.
- 24” maximum height.
- Bolt-on or weld-on installation.
- 35 square-inch base plate.
- Backed by a 2-Year Limited Warranty.
- Needs a stronger screw mechanism.
4 BIG RED T10152 Torin Steel Scissor Lift Jack Car Kit – 3,000 lb – Best Car Scissor Jack
You don’t need to spend a fortune on a good car jack. Big Red makes its Torin Steel Scissor Lift Jack at a very reasonable price point. We think it’s possibly the best auto jack for most cars.
What’s the lifting range?
This jack works within a height range of 4-1/8 inches to 15-1/8-inches. This makes it suitable for the majority of vehicles. In fact, we’d recommend keeping one stored in your truck, just in case.
It features a collapsible, compact design. This makes it an ideal replacement for that flimsy jack that most cars come equipped with.
How heavy-duty is it?
This unit is built from drop forged alloy steel for durability. This makes it capable of lifting to 3,000 pounds. Plus, it features an extra-wide base for stability when in use.
We appreciate this feature, and the 1-piece handle. This provides a quick up/down with very little effort required. The Big Red jack also meets ANSI/ASME PASE safety standards and is backed by a 1-Year Warranty.
You do get what you pay for…
While all the above sounds perfect for the price, it might not be all roses and champagne. We suggest fully inspecting your jack before each use. This is because the main lifting bolt is known to strip.
This can cause the jack to suddenly fail, which can be dangerous. It’s hard to balk at quality control issues for such a cheap car jack. However, it’s still a concern if you have to do some undercarriage work.
- Lifts to 3,000 lb.
- 15-1/8” maximum height.
- ANSI/ASME PASE safety standards
- Drop forged alloy steel construction.
- Backed by a 1-Year Manufacturer Warranty.
- The main screw needs an upgrade.
5 Pro-LifT T-9456 Grey Scissor Jack – 3,000 lb – Best Budget Scissor Jack
One of the most budget-friendly auto jacks we reviewed is produced by Pro-Lift. Their model #T-9456 is a great option if you need a jack at a low price-point.
How high does it jack up a car?
This jack features a simple and easy to use design. It has a lifting range of 3-3/4 to 15-1/8 inches, which makes it ideal for most cars. The extra-wide base helps to keep things stable when you have them jacked up.
This is important, as you don’t want the jack sliding out from under the vehicle while you’re working on it. That would just be downright dangerous or even deadly.
How heavy is your vehicle?
This might be the best car jack for the price, but only if you have a small and lightweight vehicle. It’s rated for 3,000 pounds, although we aren’t entirely sure this is accurate. This is due to the design of the lift, which has an increased load capacity, the more the height is increased. What this means is you’ll need to jack your vehicle all the way up in order to be safe working under it.
Is it safe?
While the jack does meet ANSI/PALD standards, we’ve heard some reports of it failing suddenly. For this reason, we’d consider it for occasional use, but not regular undercarriage work.
Another complaint we had is with the two-piece handle. It’s simply a pain to use and seems to slow things down. Not a big issue for occasional use, but not ideal if you need to get the job done quickly.
- Lifts to 3,000 lb.
- 15-1/8” maximum height.
- ANSI/PALD safety standards
- Extra-wide base.
- Won’t leak hydraulic fluid.
- Not ideal for heavier vehicles.
- 2-piece handle design.
6 TONDA Portable Car Scissor Jack for Sedan and Coupe – 2 Ton – Best Compact Scissor Jack
Another threaded bearing scissor jack to consider is from Tonda. It’s a touch smaller than some other options on our list. That makes it one of the best small car jacks available.
What’s the weight capacity?
This heavy-duty lift can support up to two tons, which is 4,000 pounds. It features a threaded bearing construction. Each joint is composed of high-quality steel and has been produced using high-precision grinding technology.
The durable revolving shaft makes quick work of raising/lowering the jack. We aren’t huge fans of 2-piece crankshafts, but that’s more about personal preference than anything.
Is it stable?
This jack has a bow-shaped base that helps keep it stable. It’s not an oversized base like some of the options we’ve reviewed. So, it’s fairly stable, but not the best on our list.
It lifts to a maximum height of 15.4 inches and is designed to meet ANSI/ASME PALD 2014 safety standards. Plus, it has a rust-resistant finish to help with durability.
Is it reliable?
Well, that depends on who you ask. Considering the price point, it’s not much of a surprise there have been some quality complaints.
Being as the lift is known to fail suddenly, we wouldn’t recommend this for undercarriage work. However, you do have the advantage that the hydraulic fluid will not leak because this design does not use fluid, which some will find beneficial.
- Lifts to 4,000 lb.
- 15.4” maximum height.
- ANSI/ASME PALD safety standards
- High-precision grinding technology.
- Won’t leak hydraulic fluid.
- Not ideal for heavier vehicles.
- 2-piece handle design.
7 LEAD BRAND Scissor Jack is a Labor-Saving Design – 5,000 lb – Best Value SUV Scissor Jack
Lead Brand makes a great scissor jack for those needing a bit of help with the cranking. They call it their Labor-Saving Scissor Jack Design, and we think it’s one of the best SUV jacks for the price.
What makes it a labor-saving design?
This scissor jack is equipped with a ratchet handle that helps save your strength. We think this is a great design feature, and certainly sets it apart from those reviewed above. We also like the oversized and thickened steel baseplate. This helps with rigidity and keeps the unit from slipping out of place while in use.
What type of vehicle is it designed for?
This jack can handle up to 5,000 pounds. This makes it perfect for cars and smaller SUVs. The maximum height is 17.4 inches, so you’ll need to confirm your vehicle’s required lift before ordering.
It’s a bit more expensive than a few other options on our list, but it also holds more weight. This makes it one of the best car jacks for the price.
- Lifts up to 5,000 lb.
- 17.4” maximum height.
- Ratchet handle crank.
- Oversized steel baseplate.
- More expensive than many competing jacks.
Best Scissor Jacks Buying Guide
As can be seen from our reviews, there is a wide variety of scissor lift construction, quality, and durability. This can leave you feeling overwhelmed as you try to narrow down the various important features.
Next, we will explore the key factors to consider when shopping for a new scissor jack. The first two are the most obvious – the weight rating and the maximum height.
Most of the above units are in the 1-Ton to 3-Ton category. However, there is considerable variation within that range. We, therefore, advise that you double-check your vehicle’s manual for jacking requirements.
It’s always advisable to purchase a jack that is more heavy-duty than is required. After all, it’s much better to have something stronger than needed rather than too weak for the job. Not only can a weak jack damage your car, but it can also cause you a serious injury.
Adjustability is also extremely important…
While most of the options reviewed will work just fine on cars, some won’t lift high enough for SUVs, pickup trucks, etc. While the maximum height is an obvious consideration, so is the minimum in some cases.
It’s not common, but some scissor jacks will not work with sports cars. They simply won’t go low enough to get them in place.
Base design plays a key role in functionality…
The larger the base, the less likely the jack is to slip. Considering the danger involved, we highly recommend jacks with oversized base plates.
At the same time, options with larger plates will require more space for storage. If you’re looking to keep this jack in your vehicle, you have another thing to check. Will it fit next to the spare tire?
Operation style is one of the biggest price factors…
Most of the jacks reviewed operate via a crank handle. This is the standard and least costly option for raising and lowering the jack. It also tends to be the most labor-intensive.
Some scissor jacks operate with a ratchet handle. This can save you some of the workout, but they still require some manual operation. A third option is to choose a scissor jack that works with an impact wrench. These options will save the most time and energy, but they tend to be more costly.
The third style is electrically powered. That’s right; there are scissor jacks that do not require any real manual labor. These either plugin or attach directly to your vehicle’s battery.
Everyone loves accessories…
Another important factor to consider is what is included with the jack. More often than not, you’ll get nothing more in the box than the crank handle. However, some options come equipped with far more.
One such option is the first item in our reviews. Not only do you get a jack, but you also get a tire pump and impact wrench. These extra tools will help you get the job done considerably faster, but they will also take a bigger bite out of your wallet.
