Top 10 Best RC Trucks For The Money 2019 Reviews
1 Redcat Racing SC PRO Truck
The Redcat racing SC pro truck is a really fast, exciting and powerful remote-controlled vehicle. With eye-catching red or blue graphics, it really looks the part too. You will be provided with hours of fun with this red hot racer.
The SC pro truck comes ready to run straight from the box. It is equipped with a KV3800 brushless electric motor to give supply for a real speedy truck.
A quick change forward/reverse gear ESC and four-wheel drive make for a rapid pace of speed that will really heat up the neighborhood! The truck’s shock absorbers are oil filled and fully adjustable to suit both smooth and rough terrains.
It comes complete with a 7.4v 3200Ah Lipo battery and charger. However, the radio control unit requires eight AA batteries, which are not supplied. The electronics are all fully waterproofed for the added fun of using it in watery conditions.
The 2.4GHz radio system gives for great control. Shaft driven 4WD will provide the necessary traction for maneuvering across all manner of obstacles and navigating tight spots. The lightweight but super versatile plastic chassis completes the needs for a really fun filled package.
2 Traxxas 37054-1 Truck
Here we have a wide-wheeled race truck with an innovative design and ultra-modern engineering. The Traxxas will reach a blistering top speed of 35+mph on a smooth surface. The use of a 28 toothed pinion gearbox combined with a 7-cell 8.4V battery pack is just the perfect combination for a good all round bit of street bashing!
The radio system is just a switch and drive function. With no channels or frequencies to tune through, you can just focus on the fun factor of controlling this truck.
Unlike some other radio controlled units. This one you can race with the whole family or a bunch of pals side by side without any fear of radio interference. An internal antenna ensures continuous reception impervious to damage.
Traxxas was the first company to offer waterproof electronics for remote controlled devices. They haven’t stopped innovating and improving their waterproof designs.
The patented receiver box is fully sustainable to all the elements you could possibly put this truck through. Yet it is easy to access for any routine maintenance.
This exclusive design has a 3-channel micro receiver that will allow for long-range radio controlled performance. So, the weather will not curb your fun. The Traxxas is ready to perform in water, mud and even the snow.
You will receive an 8.4V battery and DC fast charger. This rechargeable powerhouse features a 3000mAh storage capacity which allows for extended running times that are not comparable to other vehicles you will find on the market today.
A special feature is a 50% power reduction training mode. Again a patented specialty design from Traxxas this allows for younger or new users develop their control skills, before they unleash the full power of this fun machine.
3 Team Redcat TR-MT10E Monster Truck
Team Redcat is a new premium high-end truck. The sleek design with wide, low slung monster size truck tires, give it a real mean attitude and look about it. It is a machine ready to run straight out of the box.
This model is super strong and durable. Mechanicals include reinforced differentials with hardened steel driveshafts allowing for a smooth drive. The suspension has adjustable aluminum shock towers, long travel springs, and dampers.
Along with the fully adjustable turnbuckles, this system makes off-road terrain a breeze to speed over.
All the electronics are fully waterproofed. Using a high torque brushless 550 4400KV motor and a hobbywing ESC which powers four-wheel drive to the truck. The ESC has a built-in cooling fan which is a feature we like to see fitted.
There is a heavy duty Savox servo, a 2.4GHz radio hand control and a waterproof receiver within the truck. This model can reach speeds of up to 30mph.
Design features include an oversized toughened front bumper that has built-in LED lights for added coolness!
The fierce pull away makes for great wheelie pulling so the rear has an adjustable wheelie bar fitted. This truck has some cool graphics available in either black or orange across the polycarbonate body.
4 Traxxas Slash Course Truck
This truck has a race replica body style with a really colorful and funky, eye-catching design that Traxxas calls the ‘Hawaiian”.
Engineered to take a real battering this truck features scaled front and rear tubing bumper bars. So you can give this truck a real good bumper bashing as they are designed to absorb brutal impacts.
A wide stance long wheelbase chassis gives 3.5 inches of ground clearance.
A titan 12-turn 550 modified motor with an XL-5 ESC provides for racing speeds of up to 30mph. A metal geared 272 transmission has revo-spec torque control with a slipper clutch and hardened steel gears in the differential. This allows for the driving gear to endure hard-core, high-speed action.
The electronics are all waterproofed for all-weather driving. The receiver is easily accessed for any maintenance or cleaning within the truck chassis. And the antenna is fitted internally too.
The model is supplied with a 7-cell NiMH battery that has iD technology. Also, a 4 amp 12 volt DC peak detecting fast charger. The radio system has a nice ergonomic design that is very comfortable for all day racing.
It is a switch on and drive system which we like as it means for no interference from other nearby RC users. So you and your buddies can play with other machines together for even more fun and excitement.
The Slash Course Truck has an onboard audio system. It has engine sounds sampled from the real Traxxas Pro 4 short course truck driven by Mike Jenkins.
An on/off button and volume control lets you adjust sounds from a stealth mode opening up to full throttle engine noise. Switch to neutral, and you will hear this monster truck revving, flip it back and you are in full racing mode.
5 Traxxas 58076-3 Racing Truck
Here we are looking at another model from the Traxxas range. This time we have a more professional short course racing truck.
Performance refinements have been suited to give it the best stability on the track. Starting with a nice and low center of gravity chassis (CG). The battery and electronics are held as low as possible to keep the truck as road hugging and stable as can be.
A four-wheel drivetrain and extreme brushless ESC motor requires a solid chassis that will not flex under load for that arrow straight speedy acceleration.
Traxxas stability management (TSM) is in place to reduce chassis flexing. The chassis is specially designed with a smooth integrated ribbed triangular structure to the underbody. Thus preventing snags and giving precise, smooth performance when you are blazing a trail.
The high-speed electronic components control wheelspins and really let this truck haul some serious ass.
The radio system uses 2.4GHz and requires four AA batteries (not included). While the truck itself runs on a 7-cell 3000mAh NiMH battery with DC power.
So, for track racing rather than the off-road remote controlled trucks, this is a whopper. You will be seriously surprised as the TSM allows you to handle full throttle circuits of any track.
Fishtailing is prevented and replaced with out and out straight line power. The low CG dramatically increases corner speeds resulting in harder launches and gaining faster lap times.
6 Traxxas Slash Short Course Truck (Platinum Edition)
This is again a Traxxas model. Specifically designed for short course racing performance. Here we have a clear polycarbonate truck body issued.
The choice is yours to either keep it clear and show the mechanical functions in action as you race. Or you are able to give it a personal touch by painting it to your own style.
The Slash Platinum Edition features a rigid low center of gravity (CG) single central bar chassis. This allows for the motor and receiver to be inserted snugly over it, evenly distributing the weight.
The motor itself is an extreme brushless VXL unit for 60+ mph speeds – yes, we really did just say 60+ mph! Low voltage protection is integrated into the unit. All the electronics are fully sealed and waterproofed.
The running gear has fully adjustable front and rear sway bars. The differential is silicone filled. This is in place of torque control as track conditions tend to favor a center diff.
The GTR shock absorbers are hard anodized, and PTFE coated. Made from aluminum with titanium nitride coated shafts. The high volume shocks the Slash can deliver the best possible short course racing performance.
The speeds that can be reached mean a professional hand really needs to control this monster racing truck. But, with such a high-end top speed, along with the CG for agile cornering, this Slash truck will really get your adrenaline pumping.
7 Redcat Volcano Racing EPX Truck
Now we will take a look at a truck more aimed for the fun factor rather than the competitive user. This Redcat racing truck is more suitable to be used with your kids or pals to charge it around your backyard or neighborhood.
You will have some great fun with this model. It comes with red and black graphics and has a wide wheel monster truck style look about it.
This is a speedy and powerful unit equipped with a 19T RC550 brushed motor. It has a heat sink and a forward/reverse ESC for quick directional change for navigating any tight spots.
Shaft driven four wheel drive will provide you with the necessary traction to manage and maneuver around the toughest of obstacles. The fully adjustable suspension has eight aluminum capped oil filled coil over shocks.
Included in the purchase is a 2.4 GHz radio system with fully waterproofed underbody electronics. The range of the receiver is very good and can keep reception for up to 75 feet away.
Also, you will get a 7.2V 2000mAh NiMH and charger. But we will point out that many buyers choose to upgrade the battery and charger because of low battery life and the long charging time.
For some outdoor father/son fun time or a howl up with some beers and the guys, this is a most suitable model for such antics. The Volcano races will rearrange the landscape in seconds!
You can flip it, jump it, bash it about but it will still come back for more.
8 Hosim 4WD 2.4Ghz Truck
The Hosmin racing monster truck is a vehicle able to flip, slide, drift and generally muck about all in the aim of good old fashioned fun. Big wide-stanced wheels allow for a stable ride with high ground clearance for that scoot across rough ground.
And, some trendy colorful graphics complete the monster truck look.
This cross country stunt truck boasts two independent magnetic carbon brush motors for strong, powerful high speeds of up to 30 mph. For strength and durability, the truck has an all steel chassis structure.
The chassis has a shaft-like structure. With a built-in, shockproof system to reduce impacts on contact with any obstacles. There is four wheel drive on this Hosmin truck. The wheels are large, heavy duty ones with an aggressive tread for excellent off-road grip.
Premium anti-skid grip is in place for smooth surface racing as well. The four wheels are all metal with fully sealed ball bearings in place for smooth rotation.
Installed to the wheels are four independent suspension springs allowing for a flexible cross country momentum.
The transmitter works off a 2.4 GHz frequency which includes an anti-jamming capability. This will allow up to 10 other cars to be used at the same time within the same area without interference to the other units.
The electronics are fitted with a feature Hosmin calls protection performance. This means you have charge, low voltage, and high-temperature protection all to oversee and ensure fully functioning electrics.
This is a monster truck that will give you excellent all-terrain performance. It can take a serious bashing with the shock-proofed metal chassis while being able to dash around your neighborhood supplying you with stacks of fun-filled playtime!
9 Traxxas Stampede 67054-1 Monster Truck
Here we go with yet another great model offered from Traxxas. This particular truck, however, is aimed at the hobbyist rather than the more serious course race trucks we looked at before.
This is a go anywhere radio controlled vehicle aimed along the lines of having fun rather than being competitive. The design is of the monster truck theme with huge, rugged wheels and tires. The truck’s body is finished off in some cool graphics available in a range of colors.
This is a very well made piece of equipment that includes a large range of special design features. Starting with a Titan 12-turn 550 modified motor that is basically a maintenance free unit.
A fully sealed and waterproof XL-5 ESC will give long lasting performance. There is an integrated cooling fan with air-flow routed through vented tunnels towards the motor.
As Traxxas says themselves, “A cooler running motor equates to faster speeds, longer runtime and extended motor life.” Another point Traxxas likes to point out is there patented waterproof design for confident all-weather driving excitement.
A patented training mode is another special feature installed. This reduces the overall power output of the XL-5 motor by 50%. This will make it easier for new or younger to develop their control skills drivers steadily before unleashing the full power on the unexpecting!
A powerful steering servo aids responsive and accurate performance. It provides 80 ounces of steering assistance, twice as much as typical standard trucks servos on the market.
The Stampede’s 4X4 oil filled ultra shocks utilizes X-ring technology for super smooth running. There is ride height adjustment too, so you can change the springs to suit the terrain.
The radio system is TQ 2.4 GHz. This runs on a seven cell NiMH 3000mAh Traxxas iD battery. The battery has a long life and a far-reaching contact range, and there is a 4 amp peak detecting DC charger included.
The Traxxas Stampede really lives up to the name. This is a model that will give out a lot of fun, be it through water, mud or snow. Throw it into any surface conditions, and it will be hard pushed to find its limit.
It seems Traxxas have thought of everything in the design of this truck with functions made to cope with a full range of driving conditions. One point we would like to make is that with so many extra features fitted if one item fails how easy would it be to fix the fault? There are a lot of mechanicals to this truck.
10 Monster Jam Official Grave Digger Rc Truck
The last truck we will look at in this review is a fun monster truck that is a copy of the most famous monster truck touring the States today. It is the Grave Digger. A truck created and first driven by Dennis Anderson.
Being such a well-known vehicle will make this Monster Jam model appealing to younger fans of this truck. This is a fully functional radio controlled monster. The motor is ready to run straight out of the box.
It comes complete with batteries for the controller and a USB cable for recharging. The dual-joystick controller comes with 2.4 GHz frequency that can provide a long range, up to 250 feet. That really is a good range.
And, it won’t interfere with other remote controlled vehicles in the same area. So you could race up to 6 trucks together with no bother at all.
This is a most realistic copy of Grave Digger that can replicate the attitude, power, excitement, and action of the actual truck. The authentic graphics with the oversized tires create fun-filled high octane fun for the younger radio controlled car fanatic.
Adding to the fun of this model is the fantastic realistic sound effects that can be blasted from it while roaring around and chasing away fellow RC vehicles. With working lights also, you can recreate the epic action and atmosphere of a real-life Monster Jam – rev, race, roar, and flash!
The Best RC Trucks Buyers Guide
Now that we’ve taken you through ten of the best RC trucks at varying levels. We must now point out some of the considerations to be made when choosing your model.
What To Look Out For?
We have mentioned in each review about the trucks voltage. The higher it is, the more power it produces. Some of the models have such high power output that there is a 50% limiter in place to reduce the power if kids or learner drivers are operating it.
If you are after a truck that your kids will be using just for laughs and play often, then we suggest opting for a lower voltage unit. The higher voltage trucks have vast amounts of power that could be quite a hazard to the inexperienced user.
This also needs to be considered. All the trucks here have very good suspension and shock absorber setups.
For really rough ground and bash about driving, a bouncy ride, with good underbody road clearance would be best. But, if you are into racing your truck on tarmac or in short course tournaments. Then you really want a firmer set up with a lower ride height and a good center of gravity.
Both kinds of truck can be found in this review. But, some of the trucks have adjustable suspension, so you can change the setup of the vehicle to suit the surface you are using. We have mentioned in the text about any that have this option.
In the best RC trucks, these need to be protected. All of the trucks here, their manufacturers say, have waterproofed electrical motors. These are vehicles you will want to use outside in all types of weather conditions.
The components, therefore, need to be sealed and protected from not just water but dirt and dust too. If you can, check to see how well you think these parts are protected.
Traxxas, for example, has it’s very own patented weatherproof designs for its vehicles. They make a very big point about how good they are at electronics protection.
So, there are vehicles in this article that you can take out and they will take a real battering. You can slam ‘em into things, jump ‘em, flip ‘em even smash ‘em into each other.
At the end of play just take it home, and it will be ready and waiting for the next slam bang. You and your kids or other buddies can have a rip-roaring time smashing them about.
If you are more than just the hobbyist, and you want out and out power with straight line control, excellent cornering and agility. Then others here will be just the ticket for you.
Maybe you are looking to buy an RC truck that is suitable just for your kid to use out around your home with their mates. So you want something that is still great fun but maybe not quite so fast and powerful as some we have looked at.
No bother though, because there are others here that will fit right into this category.
Whatever you want, RC trucking is great fun for all who partake. At the end of the day, the keyword to having any remote controlled vehicle is…. FUN!
