Top 10 Best Motocross Boots On The Market In 2020 Reviews

1 Fox Racing Instinct Boot – Best Heavy Duty Motocross Boots

First up, we have these chunky, tactical-style, Fox motocross boots. We get some real Judge Dread vibes here! At a single glance, we can tell that these boots are serious, and not made this way by mistake.

If the shoe fits…

Constructed from Fox’s own Duratac rubber, we get an impressive amount of durability. These boots won’t wear out in a hurry! Enduring and robust, they’re sure to withstand long-term use.

In the past, we’ve often found that long-lasting boots like these are made from very thick, heavy material. Not so here! The remarkable design means they’re thinner on the inside leg, giving us an extra grip on the bike.

The sole of the boot is thinner too. This keeps our foot as close to the footpeg as possible. We get added control and grip without sacrificing quality, thanks to that excellent Duratac compound.

Extra support…

Their dramatically tough look can be a little intimidating. Do we really need all those straps and hinges?

Yes, we do. Those hinges serve a purpose. They allow the foot a decent range of movement, but also lock up and prevent the rider from hyper-extending their leg.

As for the straps, they offer additional support. We want a boot that acts as scaffolding for our leg. And those straps absolutely do the job. Plus, complementing that heavy-duty look is a burn guard. Not only does this provide an extra layer of style, but it gives us additional protection too. It’ll stop our pants and legs from getting hurt on a hot exhaust.

Any downsides?

They’re a bit clunky. And at 8.8 pounds, they’re not a lightweight option.

But all in all, they’re a decent option. A terrific way to start our review!

2 Alpinestars Men’s Tech 10 Motocross Boot – Most Comfortable Motocross Boots

We doubt there’s a rider out there who hasn’t heard of Alpinestars! Since 1963, this Italian brand has been producing high-quality protective gear for a range of outdoor sports.

There are so many excellent features here that it’s difficult to know where to begin! Let’s start with construction.

These boots are made for ridin’…

Made from a lightweight, composite material, these boots are built to last. Their endurance and durability are remarkable. They hold up well under any circumstances, even in the deepest mud.

Not only that, but the strap buckles are constructed out of cold-forged aluminum. They’re smooth-fastening and tough besides. Plus, self-aligning closures mean they’re easy to use, even when wearing gloves.

Alpinestars’ developers have come up with some game-changing technological advancements over the years, and we can see many of them here.

What do we get?

A frontal flexion control frame, for a start. It offers us optimal freedom of movement inside the boot. These boots protect whilst also allowing us to fully flex our ankles, giving us increased control and torsion.

Then there are the shock absorbers. A patented dynamic heel protection system comes into play here. They soak up the impact, reducing the force on our heels.

So far, so good! But are they comfortable?

They sure are! Tough on the outside yet cozy on the inside, they gently cradle the foot. It’s almost like having a specially designed nest, just for our toes!

But buyers beware, the sizing does run small. You might want to try before you buy.

Alpinestars Men's Tech 10 Motocross Boot
Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

Pros

  • Great durability.
  • Super flexible.
  • Extreme comfort.

Cons

  • Smaller sizes, compared to other brands.

3 Alpinestars Men’s Tech 7 Enduro Motocross Boot, Black, 11 – Best Flexible Budget Motocross Boots

A predecessor of the Tech 10s, this Tech 7 model is a more budget-conscious option. But do they sacrifice quality for price?

Let’s take a closer look…

These boots start with a dual compound foot shell. It’s exceptionally tough, offering both scrape and impact resistance. It will disperse the force of the blow and reduce the risk of scratches on the material.

That shell is backed up by a TPU ankle protector. Ankles are one of the most common places to get injured during motocross. This biomechanical joint between the boot sections provides a substantial security level for extra peace of mind.

And that’s not all!

Around our Achilles tendon, we get a flexible section. This accordion-like piece gives us even more range of movement. The suppleness it affords is a real boon when trying to control an unruly bike.

Then, there’s an outer layer of microfiber. This works as a gaiter. We all know how wet and muddy we can get when tearing up the dirt! This gaiter acts as an extra line of defense against moisture and grime.

That takes care of the outside of the boot. What’s it like inside?

The 3D lining closes comfortably around the foot. Soft yet firm, it cushions our feet as well as holding them in place. And even better, that lining is constructed from micro-fiber suede, which has anti-slip capabilities. This does, even more, to keep our foot in place.

OK, it doesn’t have some of the mod-cons that the newer models have. But at this kind of price, can we really complain? These have to be some of the best motocross boots for riders on a budget!

Alpinestars Men's Tech 7 Enduro Motocross Boot, Black, 11
Our rating:4.7 out of 5 stars (4.7 / 5)

Pros

  • Great moisture protection.
  • Top-notch flexibility.
  • Wallet-friendly.

Cons

  • Lacks the technology of more modern boots.

4 Sidi Crossfire 2 SRS Black SZ 11.5/46 – Easiest to Fix Motocross Boots

Our next pair of motocross boots have a unique feature. Every bolt-on part of them is replaceable! Even the sole!

Why does this matter?

We’ve all had that one particular pair of boots, haven’t we? They fit just right; they’re familiar, they’re perfect for us. And we know that feeling of sadness when they wear out, and it’s time they are replaced.

Well, with these Sidi boots, that feeling can be avoided! When the soles get too worn, all we have to do is replace them. They can simply be popped off with hand tools, and a new set is easily attached.

And that’s not all…

The buckles are replaceable too. When they get rusted from too much time in the mud, it’s a convenient, straightforward process to change them. Plus, they’re micro-adjustable with memory-retention straps, offering us the perfect level of tightness.

That all sounds great! But do they protect us well?

Absolutely! The laminated, technomicro-fiber construction holds up well. And with a calf plate and inner heat shield, our legs are well-defended against both impacts and exhaust burns.

Our feet are appropriately protected, too. An unyielding plastic toe guard sees to that. Combined with a rigorous, anatomically-shaped heel protector, we really have all the safe-guarding measures we need.

Put your boot in…

If we have to find a negative, I guess we could say they look a little boring. The design seems kind of basic. But with the impressive number of features we’ve listed here, we don’t think that matters too much.

Oh, and just one more thing. We love the flexibility these Sidi boots offer! They’re pliable enough to provide great freedom of movement, without running the risk of hyper-extension.

Sidi Crossfire 2 SRS Black SZ 11.5/46
Our rating:4.3 out of 5 stars (4.3 / 5)

Pros

  • Inter-changeable components.
  • Flexible yet sturdy.
  • Reasonable price.

Cons

  • Uninspiring looks.

5 O’Neal 0325-708 Womens New Logo Rider Boot (Black/Pink, Size 8) – Best Womens Motocross Boots

Settle down, ladies, don’t all rush at once! Relax, and let us introduce you to these O’Neal motocross boots.

These have to be some of the comfiest boots we’ve looked at. With a cushioned insole and lavish heel support, we get the ultimate in foot well-being and satisfaction. Plus, an air mesh interior assists in keeping our feet cool and dry.

Pink, to make the boys wink…

And for even more comfort, they feature a wider calf fit. Having the top of the boot digging into our leg is no picnic! The generous sizing around the leg adds to our enjoyment and makes them easier to put on and take off.

A metal shank helps to provide maximum support. And with reinforcement coming from injected molded plastic plates, we really do get a remarkable level of protection. Plus, a metal guard not only defends our toes, but it also helps to prevent the sole from detaching too.

Vertically-inclined riders?

This might be an excellent option for you. Bikes such as CRF250’s are high! This product gives us an extra lift, adding a bit of height to those with shorter legs.

So far, so good. But what’s the catch?

They are very stiff. We’d like a little less rigidity. It can be frustrating when we struggle to use the gear shift due to the boot.

We also feel the trope of women’s motorcycle gear always being pink is getting pretty tired. Come on; it’s the 21st century! We want to see a wider choice of women’s equipment in other colors.

Despite these points, we can’t deny that this is a decent pair of MX boots. And they sure are easy on the old pocketbook!

O'Neal 0325-708 Womens New Logo Rider Boot (Black/Pink, Size 8)
Our rating:4.6 out of 5 stars (4.6 / 5)

Pros

  • Ultimate comfort.
  • Offers extra height.
  • Tough and unyielding.

Cons

  • Unimaginative color scheme.
  • Extremely rigid.

6 New 2019 Gaerne SG-12 Men’s Motocross Boots (Black) (10, BLACK) – Best Premium Motocross Boots

‘Why, Gaerne? Because your confidence is in the details.’

It’s a bold statement from Gaerne. Can their attention to detail really give us maximum confidence in the SG12’s performance?

Let’s find out…

Well, there certainly are a lot of details to cover! To start, we have a dual-stage pivot system. Basically, this means we get two separate glide plates; that both offer support and allow a natural range of movement. It’s an impressive little function, and one we’d be pleased to have.

Then, we find a dual composite heel guard. This anti-shock cup absorbs the blow of the impact. The heel is an incredibly painful spot to injure, so this damage protection is incredibly handy.

Incredibly tough…

Not only that, but thanks to thermoplastic, the shin guard is remarkably tough. Plus, it’s adjustable. With the removal of only a couple of screws, it’ll easily accommodate riders with muscly calves!

I think we can safely say that these boots have a fantastic exterior!

How does the interior compare?

Memory foam comes into play here. Much like those foam pillows we have at home, it shapes itself around our body. It provides a comfortable, cozy nest for our feet and will retain our personalized shape.

And thanks to the gaiter, that memory foam won’t get wet! Made from Acronos fabric, it keeps out dirt, mud, and moisture. Plus, it’s breathable, so any dampness that sneaks in will dry speedily.

Sounds too good to be true! Are there any negatives?

Of course. There always are, aren’t there? And here, it’s the cost. This attention to detail has a high price tag attached.

What did we ask earlier? Can Gaerne’s attention to detail really give us confidence? I think we can say that it can if money is no object.

New 2019 Gaerne SG-12 Men's Motocross Boots
Our rating:4.6 out of 5 stars (4.6 / 5)

Pros

  • Excellent heel shock absorbers.
  • Dual pivot glide plates.
  • Adjustable front plate.

Cons

  • On our salary, we can’t afford them!

7 Fly Racing 2019 Maverik Boots (13) (Black) – Best Lightweight Budget Motocross Boots

Our next pair of boots are amazingly lightweight! At first glance, they seem weak. Is that the case?

Well, yes and no. We’d say they’re almost as tough as most other mid-range boots around.

Here’s why…

On the bottom, we find a solid rubber sole. We think this is awesome! Not only does its thickness provide excellent protection, but it also has a decent grip, preventing slipping.

3D molded plastic forms the shift panel. Now, this panel is not just flat. Instead, it has a variety of different textures and depths. These help prevent the boot from degrading, giving it a longer life span.

And the shin protection is brilliant! We hate that feeling when we hit the front of our leg. This part of the boot completely prevents that pain by sustaining damage from the impact itself.

But there are negatives here, too…

The fabric parts just aren’t robust enough. They don’t have the durability we need when racing on the dirt. We’re not sure that we’d trust the buckles either. They’re a little flimsy, and those screws in them can’t be tightened. There’s a potential concern of the straps coming loose mid-race.

And they’re super stiff. Yes, we know, all motorcycle boots need to be broken in! But that will take a long time with this pair, and until that happens, they’re pretty uncomfortable to wear.

A superb choice for anyone on a budget…

So, there are positives and negatives. But at a price like this, we think the good sure outweighs the bad if you’re strapped for cash.

Fly Racing 2019 Maverik Boots
Our rating:4.6 out of 5 stars (4.6 / 5)

Pros

  • Incredibly inexpensive.
  • Good sole and shin defense.
  • Long-lasting front plate.

Cons

  • Undependable fabric sections.
  • Poorly constructed buckles.

8 TCX Boots Men’s Drifter Waterproof Boots (W/P Vintage Brown, Size 43/Size 9) – Best Looking Motocross Boots

With their smokey brown hues, we have here an eye-catching pair of boots! These just scream old-school cool.

This time we get a polyurethane shin plate. We love polyurethane for this!

Why?

Because it has incredible waterproofing capabilities, and moisture should just roll right off. And it’s backed up by a layer of burnished leather, providing rugged good looks as well as resistance to wetness.

And even better; it also has a waterproof lining. This is a boot that takes no chances. There a few things worse than having soggy, wet feet while riding, and this is a boot that knows it!

What else?

The TXC Drifters have a CFS, or Comfort Fit System.

But what exactly is that? Basically, it uses microfibers to ensure the ultimate in comfort for our feet. Those fibers keep us warm and dry. Plus, they’re beautifully soft, forming a cozy nest for our toes to sink into.

As we mentioned earlier, this is a stunning pair of boots!

Won’t we worry about scratching or marking them?

Not really. That vintage leather outer layer is built to last. Not to mention, the shift pad has an extra layer of leather, reducing the risk of damage.

Oh, and we need to talk about the buckles too. Made from 6060 aluminum, they’re both robust and fully adjustable. And thanks to their size, they’re also easy to undo, even when wearing gloves.

Reboot required…

We should mention that these are not as sturdy as some others on this list. We’d be more than happy to use them for motorsports, but they might be more suitable for adventure riding. And they don’t have a hinge, or flex panel around the ankle, meaning movement may be limited.

But aside from that, we can’t help loving these boots. And they come at a very reasonable price, too.

TCX Boots Men's Drifter Waterproof Boots
Our rating:4.6 out of 5 stars (4.6 / 5)

Pros

  • Superbly beautiful.
  • Low cost.
  • Incredible moisture resistance.

Cons

  • Reduced ankle flexibility.

9 Leatt GPX 5.5 Flexlock Boots-Royal-11

What does this item have that others do not?

Leatt’s Flexlock system…

These are hinged motorcycle boots. This means we get a pretty big range of movement around the ankles. And we need that movement in motocross! It’s imperative that we get that mobility out on the track.

But then, putting the ‘lock’ in ‘Flexlock,’ the system also prevents too much motility. It’s so important not to hyper-extend! The design offers up to a 37% reduction in force to the ankle and provides up to a 35% reduction in ankle force.

It supports the ankle in another way too. The inner space over the ankle is filled with foam. This takes the impact away from the joint, dispersing it safely.

Sounds great, right? But, wait, there’s more…

The sole is reinforced using a steel shank for extra toughness. And its Dualzone hardness only adds to that. It also has fantastic gripping capabilities for complete bike control.

One aspect of this boot that we really loved was the toe box. It’s slightly lower and less obtrusive than others. This unique style makes it easier to sneak our toes under the shift, for quick, convenient gear changes.

Boot it up…

These are not subtle boots. In clashing red and blue, they certainly draw a spectator’s attention! Some riders may prefer a more understated option.

Then again, does color really matter that much? Especially when the fit is as fantastic as this! These shoes even accept wider feet, snugly encasing them in a breathable mesh liner.

As we’re sure you can tell, we like them a lot!

Leatt GPX 5.5 Flexlock Boots-Royal-11
Our rating:5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5)

Pros

  • Incredible ankle defense and support.
  • Roomy fit.
  • Solid sole.

Cons

  • Gaudy colors!

10 FORMA – Motorcycle Bike Boulder CE Approved Brown

And now, we come to the final item on our list. These Forma boots come with some seriously rugged good looks. They just scream, ‘adventure!’

This time, we’re starting from the bottom.

Why?

Because we love the heel cup! Changing gear while standing is not an easy thing to do, especially for the inexperienced rider. This heel shield is shaped to assist in standing changes, making it safer and easier to do so.

Like many others we’ve seen, the sole is made from rubber. Being both slip and oil-resistant, it provides the perfect base for our boot. And it’s thick too, offering enormous protection against rocks.

No unpleasant odors…

And on the other side of that sole, inside the boot, is an anti-bacterial insole. After a long day, boots can really stink! This insole eats away at any unpleasant odors.

With a full-grain leather upper, not only does this look fantastic, it’s robust too. That leather won’t degrade in a hurry. For an enduring pair of boots, we could do worse.

But wait! We haven’t talked about protection yet!

A foam-filled ankle shield is our friend here. It absorbs the impact of crashes and falls. And as it’s relatively rigid, it can guard against hyper-extension as well.

But, that rigidity has a downside. We’d like to have a little more mobility. If there’s too little, it can be challenging to reach our gear shift and brake.

It’s a minor point, though. And thanks to the 12-month warranty and reasonable cost, this could be a good option for all riders’ styles. The perfect way to end our review of the best motocross boots!

FORMA – Motorcycle Bike Boulder CE Approved Brown
Our rating:4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

Pros

  • Great looks.
  • Heel cup makes standing changes easier.
  • 12-month warranty.

Cons

  • Lack of mobility.

A Buyers Guide for the Best Motocross Boots

Best Motocross Boots Review

We admit it; we love shopping for motocross boots! But it can be a daunting task. What should we look for when choosing the best pair for us?

The Exterior

Naturally, the level of protection offered has to be paramount. But this protection comes in many forms. For a start, we need a tough shin guard. A blow to the shin can be difficult to bear, so the front plate should reduce the impact’s strength.

Then, there’s ankle protection. A decent ankle defender should be robust on the outside. And inside, it should be backed up by some kind of foam to help disperse the blow.

And we need to consider our toes, too. Remember how sore it is to stub your toe in the house? Stubbing it coming off a bike hurts ten times as much! We want an adequate extra layer around this area to prevent damage.

Now, back to those ankle protectors…

Of course, they need to be sturdy. But there’s something else to consider here as well. The ankle needs to be able to move! It’s essential to have some mobility if just to be able to change gear or brake. A hinge joint or a flexible section around this part of the foot is a good idea.

But on the other hand, it shouldn’t move too much. Hyper-extension can be a real issue. A joint that locks would be perfect in this situation.

The heel of the boot is another aspect to consider. It needs to be well scaffolded, as a damaged heel is no joke! Ideally, we want a cup-like section shaped around our foot, which will also give added support when changing gear when standing up.

The Interior

Comfort is imperative. Riding in boots that cause blisters or sores isn’t much fun for anyone! A soft, supportive material, such as memory foam, is a fantastic idea.

And if it’s waterproof, anti-bacterial, or breathable, all the better. Ideally, we want a combination of the three. Having wet feet is a miserable experience, and no one wants to ride with friends who have stinky boots!

One last thing…

It’s important not to forget that good boots cost money. Yes, it’s tempting to go for the cheaper option. But with boots such as these, we usually get what we pay for, so rather fork out for the best you can afford.

So, what are the Best Motocross Boots?

Alpinestars Men’s Tech 10 Motocross Boot
